About Us
Our Building was built in 1840 and was called ‘The Railway Hotel’ opposite the newly opened railway station which was called ‘Clevedon Road.’ It was built on Twitching Orchard, part of the estate manor of Yatton Rectory. In 1844, our stable, Cart-House, yard and garden were granted to Thomas Baynton, Brewer, of Bedminster. In 1879 it was sold to Hardwick & Co.
By 1872 Edmund Parsons advertised the inn as ‘Hotel and posting house, wine, spirit, ale and porter merchant.’
By 1894, a ‘large assembly room seating about 300’ was added. Not only is this the oldest dance floor in Yatton to date, the Kray Brothers used the building for secret meetings! The Great Train Robbers also used the building as a midway stopping point.
